About Me

Greetings! My name is Joseph Aldana Moran. I am an undergraduate EE student at UNLV, on track to graduate in the spring of 2025. I was born in Hawaii and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. I've always loved learning math and carried an inventive mind. I attended Southeast Career and Technical Academy and majored in Sports Medicine. This major allowed me to become familiar with human anatomy and physiology and common injuries that plague sports activity. After high school, I enrolled at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I wanted to return to engineering and chose electrical because of how broad the field spans.
Then, during my freshman year, it happened. I knew I wanted to make a career in electrical and computer engineering when I assembled and programmed an Arduino bot to detect walls 10cm away, stop and turn 90 degrees, and continue until the next detection. From this project, the possibilities became endless in my mind.
Although full time classes got hard and I had to step away from UNLV, I continued education at College of Southern Nevada and received my associate degree in Ophthalmic Technology dealing with eyeglass and contact lens technology. This served as a stepping stone to supporting my continued learning at UNLV for electrical engineering.
Since my return to UNLV, I've developed a passion for computer engineering, especially around the hardware-software interface in the architecture. I enjoy working with hardware description languages that let me design and test digital hardware components virtually before physical implementation. I also like to learn about all the different elements in computer architecture and the OSI model.
Almost ten years later, I stayed the course, and am about to embark on my Senior Design project before graduating next spring. I've completed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam for electrical and computer, and thus, have been certified as an Engineer-in-Training in the State of Nevada (#0T9134).
After graduation, I plan on continuing my education with a focus on computer engineering, working at the leading edge of technology, and helping develop systems that aid in the areas I've studied: Sports Medicine, Ophthalmic Technology, and ECE in general. Thank you for your time!
